Maa Jayanti Devi

The Goddess of Victory

The name Jayanti is traditionally associated with victory. At Jind, Maa Jayanti Devi is revered as the Goddess of Victory and as the deity at the heart of the city’s traditional origin story.

This is where the Pandavas sought the blessings of Jainti Devi before their battle against the Kauravas. The goddess was invoked for victory, and a shrine was established in her honour.

Over time, a settlement grew around the temple and became known as Jaintapuri — the abode of Jainti Devi. The name eventually evolved into Jind.

Thus, the goddess is more than the presiding deity of an ancient shrine.

In the traditional story of Jind, she is the goddess from whom the city itself takes its name.

A Name of the Divine Mother

Jayanti is a name associated with victory and appears within the wider traditions of Hindu worship of the Goddess.

The Jind tradition gives that name a particular meaning: Jainti Devi, the Goddess whose blessings were sought for victory.
