Jaintapuri to Jind
The abode of Jainti Devi
According to local tradition, a settlement grew around the temple of Jainti Devi.
Its name was Jaintapuri—the abode of Jainti Devi.
Over time, the name changed.
Jaintapuri → Jind
And so, the story goes, the city came to carry the name of the goddess who had been worshipped here for generations.
The Goddess at the heart of the city
Few places have a story in which the identity of the city itself is so closely connected to its presiding deity.
For devotees, Jind is not simply the place where the temple stands.
Jind is the city of Jainti Devi.
